BAPMOH is a home for vulnerable children.

Vulnerable children need to be protected by the community against dangers that are in their surrounding.

They need to be cared for by the community.

When a child has no parents, all the parental responsibilities, like feeding, clothing, housing, playing with them and educating them, become then responsibilities of the community.

With KOH international, we try to link BAPMOH with our community in Belgium.

We believe that the community in Luzira, Kampala and by large Uganda, East-Africa, is responsible for the children of their community. Bus also the international community has a big responsibility.

We are not experienced in doing this. We are young people and we do this voluntarily, next to our own daily activities like our studies, work, families, ...

In the relationship with KOH international, there is a lot to do: in administration, in financial matters, in communication with the BAPMOH staff, with teachers and children, information and communication with the sponsors by mail and on our website, communication with the local government and other organizations, ...

There is a link with scouts (see history of BAPMOH) and there is a link with teachers.

We try to fill in all these links, because they can all be important to BAPMOH !

Drie studenten voor 3 maanden naar Oeganda

25/01/2010 Als derdejaarsstudenten lager onderwijs aan Artesis, willen ze een project oprichten voor meer groepswerk in een basisschool. "Op school wordt nu lesgegeven aan grote groepen van dertig tot veertig kinderen. Wij willen het veel interactiever maken. Leerlingen moeten hun deel bijdragen in de les. We delen de kinderen in in groepjes van vier personen. Op die manier leren ze ook iets van elkaar", vertelt Lynn.

"Het wordt wel lastig, want we geven les in het Engels. We horen het hier overal, maar het zelf de hele tijd spreken, is moeilijk. Vooral de wiskundige termen dan. De kinderen spreken bovendien de taal maar gebrekkig. Engels is daar de voertaal, maar ze hebben een zwaar dialect", vertelt Carmen. "We zullen deels met gebaren moeten werken, daarom hebben we poppen gemaakt om dingen uit te beelden", vult Lynn aan.

"We willen de wereld verbeteren." Alle drie denken ze dat daar in Afrika het meeste behoefte aan is. "Eerst wilden we naar Tanzania, maar toen we op het blog van Sanne Lauwers en Alice Leclef - die vorig jaar zijn gegaan - keken, waren we meteen overtuigd om naar Oeganda te gaan", vertelt Lissa. "We gaan naar hetzelfde gastgezin. Door de foto's weten we al een beetje wat we kunnen verwachten."

In het noorden van Oeganda zitten rebellen. "Maar wij zitten in het zuiden, in Port Bell. Het is daar veilig", vertelt Carmen. "Er is veel sociale controle in het dorp. Ze zijn blij met hulp uit het westen. Wanneer er ons iets overkomt, zijn ze bang dat niemand meer komt helpen."

"Ze hebben al gezegd dat ze met ons gaan pronken", lacht Lissa. "Het is een heel arm schooltje. Ze hopen dat er rijkere kinderen komen wanneer wij er lesgeven." Lynn: "We komen niet om daar alles te reorganiseren. De docenten kennen de kinderen immers het beste."

Het contact met het thuisfront zal blijven. "We houden een blog bij voor de mensen hier. Ook komen mijn ouders twee weken op vakantie", vertelt Lissa.

Lynn: "We hebben ook een project met basisschool Het palet. Als wij dingen vertellen over ons leven in België is dat niet interessant voor de kinderen. Wel is het leuk om in brieven te lezen waar kinderen in België precies mee bezig zijn."

Alice en Sanne, Januari 2009

Alice Leclef en Sanne Lauwers, twee studenten van het laatste jaar Lichamelijke Opvoeding aan de Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen, vertrekken begin februari drie maanden naar Uganda. Daar gaan ze een eigen ontwikkelingsproject uit de grond stampen, waar ze later hun eindwerk aan kunnen koppelen. Alice en Sanne hebben een volledig sportproject ontwikkeld. Dat wordt opgestart in een lagere school voor weeskinderen in Kampala, de hoofdstad van Uganda. Het project bestaat uit twee delen. Met teamsporten en groepsspelen willen ze werken rond persoonlijke en sociale ontwikkeling en milieu- en gezondheidseducatie.Via individuele sporten krijgen ook aspecten als zelfvertrouwen, samenwerking en inzet de nodige aandacht. Uiteindelijk zetten ze een grote eindshow op poten, die het schoolfeest moet opfleuren. Alice en Sanne willen met dit project kinderen de kans geven hun dagelijkse problemen te vergeten en iets bij te leren via sport en ontspanning. REPORT FROM THE KIDS OF HOPE CHOIR

In Uganda, it’s a culture that every school participates in cultural dances as a way of promoting culture amongst the growing pupils. and Baden Powell Memorial Academy has a strong choir which is commonly known as Kids of Hope Choir this is the choir that participated in the Division competition and it was recognized as the best . This made the choir to qualify for the District competition and it was recognized as the third .The above award was designed for the wining choir at the district level.

The division council was so pleased and it sponsored the school in terms of transport for the final competition.

Kids of hope have continued to shine day and night both at National level and I International standards. Currently the children have got their holidays and most of them have travelled to Kenya. This is a special program organized by the Kenyan Scouts Association. Every holiday, some children have the opportunity to travel to Kenya for holidays with their foster parents and there are some few that remain at the orphanage home

Allot has been going on in this project.
It s quite long since i last checked on it because I know it’s near than any other. Ever since they returned from Kenya, they have been having a fixed schedule in preparation for the national examination.
They managed to perform well in Kenya and they were also able to collect some small funds in form of food, clothing, soap, money in cash and many other things.
As far as music is concerned, they are really doing well because its one of the key ways they use to raise funds for their living. The great benefit from music is the young boy who got some body to support his education for secondary his photo is the first one.

However iam of the view that we need to change some methods in terms of funding this project. I must appreciate that as far as music is concerned we have done something. But my question is; are we really meeting the basic need of these children? Are we helping them grow to see the future? Are they really benefiting from the sweat of their work / the presentations they make?
What is the basic package we will ever give these kids? It may not be all but atleast some of them? Here was my idea.

I have really moved and interacted with many other people and saw that some things can be hard at the start but still possible and eventually the load will reduce. Much as we may support KOH through the music activity, I have come to realize that it does not fully produce the primary goal which is creating opportunities for them in order to raise funds for their education . But what if we do it this. If we can say that with effect from next year we shall be supporting those children that excel highly in their Primary leaving exams for secondary education.
I believe this can help them to concentrate on their books and read for a secondary support. We can begin with a few that may show good performance from primary. This is so because the kids have really less time for studies they are now over concentrated to Music than education . Yes much as they study but still education is their priority not Music. So I don’t what you may say about this but I think we need to see how we can raise Funds for the education of these kids I just don’t know how this will work out but still we need to look for other sources of money what do you think about this?

I get so hurt and empty to see the KOH kids are repeating primary classes because they don’t have money for secondary. What can we do about this it’s my hearts desire to see these children finish secondary. One of the KOH kids graduated recently.

This girl is the one of the girls infact the fast the first to complete her education and graduate through the hands of Musisi. She was in tears.

Peniel Rwendeire tells the story of the starfish

One time there was a boy who was just along the shore trying to collect some star fish that lied along the shores. These star fish were bushed to the shores on the dry land due to the waves that moved them from water to the ground. So one man was moving a long the shores and saw this young boy collecting one by one and throwing them back in water.

This man asked him ''hey , these star fish are so many why waste your time after all you can't finish them all." The young boy caught one and held it in his hands and said: "look! each time i throw one in water, i will have saved it's life!" So he threw one in water and it survived the sun. And he concluded by saying each time u improve on one's life you will have made a difference in his life later all will move to changing the world. no matter how small it may be but one time one day it will grow. Just like jesus who began with 12 disciple but now thousands are his dicsciples to day. There is one book that has tremendously changed my life .its called the 8th habit by franklin covey. i have read this book over and over but each time i read i feel fresh again it has a letter in it that i will one time send to u see i mean that letter makes me cry each time i read it. it inspires me i made a photo copy of it. It shows the kind of challenges we may one time face as we are growing.

Ready to go on tour to Kenya!

In august, the Kids of Hope of Kampala had a group of musical visitors from Kenya as their guests. They went together on stage in Kampala and Jinja, two of the biggest Ugandan cities. Now it is time for Kids of Hope to go on tour in Kenya! Twenty-five pupils will be going on a musical voyage to several cities in Kenya and come on stage, bringing their best music, their best dances and their best costumes!

The costumes are in the coulours black, yellow and red, the coulours of Uganda (and Belgium!)
They fit nice with the white gospel suits. It looks very coulourful and joyful! And you didn't even hear them singing or seen them dancing yet!!

You want a peace of me! ;-)

A group of Belgian visitors from Scouting and other youth organisations in Belgium came to visit the Kids of Hope in Kampala. First, Peniel Rwendeire, who is one of the volunteers working with the children in Baden Powell Orphanage, invited the Belgian youngsters to his parents home for dinner.

Quiet relaxing after a long trip from Belgium to Uganda.

Then the were welcomed at the Baden Powell Memory school in Kampala by all the children, who were waiting for them to visit them, since last year, in august 2007, there was also a group of Belgian youngsters on a visit to their school and it was a very delighted happening!

Last year, the Belgians had the honor to receive each an official Scouting scarf of one of the senior Scouts! This year, the Belgians were given flowers! What a happy meeting this is!

And they brought a hymne standing firm.

Then, the Belgians went into a classroom.

Were they followed mondays English lesson.

And they visited the sleeping place of the children.

The long awaited instruments have arrived!
